Olga Savchenko, Senior Partner at Altelaw&Sempra and Chairwoman of the UWEA Energy Law Committee, moderated a session at Energy Storage Day 2026

Olga Savchenko, Senior Partner at Altelaw&Sempra and Chairwoman of the UWEA Energy Law Committee, moderated a session at Energy Storage Day 2026 dedicated to financing models for ESS (Energy Storage System) and ESS + Wind projects.

The discussion focused on how financial models for infrastructure energy projects are currently structured and precisely what funding providers expect from a developer: project structuring, risk profile, contractual warranties, predictability of the regulatory environment, and a transparent monetisation model.

Within the framework of the session, various funding sources and mechanisms were discussed:
— Bank financing;
— Financing from international institutions and funds;
— Key metrics for securing private equity financing;
— The legal aspects of transaction structuring for capital raising.

“For the financing of ESS projects, legal certainty and a ‘bankable’ documentation package are paramount: a transparent regime for grid connection and market access, a predictable revenue model, appropriate risk allocation within EPC/O&M and offtake/balancing agreements, as well as the legal integrity of the asset and the security package,” emphasised Olga Savchenko, summarising the outcomes of the session.

This session convened speakers who practically navigate the financing of energy projects from the perspectives of investors, banks, and international institutions. We extend our gratitude to the UWEA for the opportunity to discuss the genuine requirements and solutions that facilitate bringing energy projects to financial close.
