Experts gathered to discuss investment opportunities for rebuilding Ukraine after the war at the III Business & Legal Infrastructure Forum on September 18.
The final session was moderated by Olga Savchenko, Senior Partner at Altelaw, who emphasized the significance of investments in the restoration and modernization of the country’s infrastructure.
Olga Savchenko highlighted the need for legal protection of investors. She pointed out that without a proper judicial system that can effectively protect the interests of investors, it will become much more difficult to raise funds in Ukraine. Olga Savchenko emphasized: “Investors must be sure in counting on qualified and fair protection in the courts of Ukraine in case of force majeure” The lawyer also underlined that a transparent and efficient judicial system is one of the key factors for creating a favorable investment climate.
Other speakers at the forum raised important questions.
Ihor Benedysiuk, judge of the Commercial Court of Cassation, suggested introducing a “single window” principle for investment disputes, which would improve the speed and quality of consideration of such cases.
Yegor Perelygin, Chairman of the Board of the United Mining and Chemical Company, underlined the importance of legal protection for investors in the titanium industry and cooperation with international partners.
Alyona Sumina, Acting Head of Legal Affairs at UkraineInvest, presented government incentives for attracting large investments, primarily tax benefits and compensation for infrastructure.
Dmytro Filonenko, Senior Manager for Partnerships and Business Development in the U.S.-Ukraine Business Council spoke about the need to privatize state infrastructure facilities to attract more investment.
Olga Savchenko clearly outlined that Ukraine has a huge potential for attracting investment at the forum, however, the key aspect is to provide legal protection for investors and create a transparent judicial system.
