UA Energy 2026: Key Focus Areas of Ukraine’s Energy Recovery and Transformation
The recovery of Ukraine’s energy sector is transitioning into a phase of systemic planning and long-term solutions.
Over the course of three days in Kyiv, UA Energy 2026 brought together government officials, international financial institutions, investors, and energy businesses to focus on practical mechanisms for modernizing Ukraine’s power grid.
As part of the Energy Strategy Day, organized by the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine and supported by the RST, Olha Savchenko, Senior Partner at Altelaw & Sempra, moderated the opening panel discussion. The panel focused on grid resilience, the development of distributed generation, balancing capacities, and RES (renewable energy sources) integration, featuring participants from Ukrenergo, KNESS, Elementum Energy, Naftogaz, and the Ukraine Energy Support Fund.
Key Takeaways:
- Green Auctions: The quota for the upcoming support quota allocation auction is planned at 1 GW.
- Grid Connection: The TSO (Transmission System Operator) is open to dialogue regarding customers independently executing grid connection works.
- Gas PSO: Public Service Obligations (PSO) for gas should not be relied upon in business models.
- Business Priorities: The prevailing trend among businesses is a desire to ensure self-sufficiency in electricity, rather than installing energy storage systems (ESS) as a standalone business.
- New Capacity Tenders: Conditions for new generating capacity tenders have been significantly simplified. The planned procurement volume is 1,322 MW, making participation look highly viable.
- Investor Demand: Regulatory stability remains the primary demand from foreign investors.
For us, participating in UA Energy 2026 was yet another confirmation of the high-level dialogue between business, government, and key stakeholders, as well as our partners’ readiness to support the transformation of Ukrainian energy.
