Why don’t green auctions work?

This topic will be raised at the online event on December 5, 12:00: The first “green” auctions in Ukraine: does the mechanism for supporting RES generation work?

The UN Global Compact in Ukraine, together with ExPro, within the framework of the Ukraine Energy Initiative, will hold a panel discussion on “The first ‘green’ auctions in Ukraine: Does the mechanism of support for RES generation work?”

Olga Savchenko, Senior Partner at Altelaw, will be one of the speakers at the event.

The first pilot “green” auctions in Ukraine have revealed several problems that hinder the development of renewable energy. Why are investors in no hurry to participate in the auctions? How do we increase their engagement? The online event will answer these urgent questions.

As a reminder, the first pilot “green” auction for SPPs did not occur.  The second auction has already been held, where 2 companies took a total of 1899 kW out of 11,000 kW of the quota. The third pilot “green” auction also failed.

What will we talk about?

  • How do green auctions work: legal framework, needs and mechanisms?
  • Why was the demand for the first pilot auctions low?
  • How to increase the interest of investors and market participants?
  • What are the obstacles and prospects for the RES generation support mechanism?
